GitLab, the leading AI-powered, enterprise-grade DevSecOps platform, just announced the launch of its newest major release, GitLab 16. The latest update offers customers new DevSecOps platform-wide capabilities that are immediately available as well as releases scheduled for the rest of the year.

Leveraging AI-Powered Capabilities
GitLab 16 offers enterprises an AI-powered DevSecOps platform with capabilities ranging from Code Suggestions, which empower users to write better code more quickly and efficiently, to security analysis and testing, observability, and proactive vulnerability detection. The privacy-first approach gives enterprises and highly-regulated organizations the assurance that their intellectual property will remain secured within GitLab’s infrastructure. Additional features powered by AI include Explain This Code, Explain This Vulnerability, Suggested Reviewers, and Value Stream Forecasting. Future releases will include features such as Resolve This Vulnerability and Refactor This Code.

Securing End-to-End Software Supply Chain
GitLab automates software delivery and secures enterprises’ software supply chain, empowering them to prioritize security and speed. Enterprises using GitLab can provision, scale, and secure their software supply chains end to end, achieve full observability of their threat landscape, and implement policies to ensure adherence to compliance requirements, allowing them to speedily deliver secure software. New and improved security capabilities encompass compliance dashboards, expanded compliance reports and controls, centralized policy management, and default SLSA Level 3 attestations.

Customizing Value Stream Management
Value Stream Management enables customers to visualize end-to-end DevSecOps workflows, manage software development processes, and gain insight into how technology investments and digital transformation are delivering value and driving business results. Through GitLab’s Value Stream Analytics, enterprises can visualize and manage the DevSecOps workstream from ideation to delivery. Furthermore, the Value Stream Dashboard offers an organization-wide view of DevOps Research and Assessment (DORA) metrics, cycle times, deployment frequency, and critical vulnerabilities.
The release of GitLab 16 and its upcoming updates are an answer to the industry’s growing demand for DevSecOps workflows with AI integrations and faster shipments of secure software, as highlighted in GitLab’s 7th annual Global DevSecOps Report, titled Security Without Sacrifices. According to the survey, 65% of developers are currently using or planning to implement AI/ML in testing efforts over the next three years.
